Capacity-building program for the 2019 ERCE Study: data analysis workshop

This training workshop is aimed at strengthening capacities within the countries’ technical teams that will analyze the data from the application of the Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE 2019). The workshop is part of a training plan designed for each technical phase of this regional learning assessment study.

The first objective of the training is to provide a general overview of the design of the Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE 2019) and its database structure as well as the implications of its sample and assessment design. The second objective is to practice the implementation of analysis plans using the R software.

The participants will consider an overview of large-scale assessments and discuss the characteristics of the study and its challenges. The topics to be discussed will include: transversal vs longitudinal designs, the standardization of tests and procedures, the test designs (revolving matrixes, scales and derived test results) and the development of questionnaires, invariance and sampling designs.

The workshop will also address relevant methods of analysis, the interpretation of the results of the analysis and its reports. Also, the participants will discuss the opportunities and limitations of international comparative research and will address critiques of large-scale assessments.
