Education for Sustainable Development will again be afforded an entire thematic day as part of the 24th Conference of Parties to the UN Climate Convention (COP24).

UNESCO will co-organize several side events together with UN partners and other organizations throughout “Education Day”:

- 1pm-2.30pm: High-level event: “Stepping-up Climate Education - Accelerating the Implementation of the Paris Agreement and the SDGs” (Room 3: Lubelskie Climate Action)
- 3.30pm-5.30pm: Round Table Discussion “Climate Change Education Challenges”
- 6pm-7.30pm: One UN Side Event: “Climate Change Education for All – Taking everyone along to boost sustainable solutions at a local level” (Pieniny room)

These events will bring together education and climate change experts as well as COP participants and aims to share information, provide examples of good practice, and present evidence that education is crucial to address climate change issues.

UNESCO’s work on Climate Change Education within the framework of its Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) programme aims to make education a more central and visible part of the international response to climate change. It seeks to support countries to mainstream climate change into their education systems and to help people understand the causes and impact of global warming today.

Climate change remains a critical thematic focus across all five Priority Action Areas of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD, the official follow up to the UN Decade of ESD.

UNESCO will also be present all day at the One UN booth for SDG 4 on Education, located in the UN exhibition area.
