Information meeting on UNESCO’s work to address homophobic and transphobic violence in education
The meeting aims at informing the Permanent Delegations to UNESCO of the immediate actions and mid- and long-term plans for the follow-up to the international ministerial meeting on education sector responses to violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression (17-18 May 2016 at UNESCO Headquarters).
The meeting will inform the Delegations of the background and status of affirmation by member states, on the “Call for Action by Ministers – Inclusive and equitable education for all learners in an environment free from discrimination and violence”. The call was issued at the international ministerial meeting on education sector responses to violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity, convened at UNESCO Headquarters, 17-18 May 2016; and the future plans of UNESCO to address the issue of homophobic and transphobic bullying in educational settings, and more broadly the issue of school violence including bullying and cyber bullying.
