Global Launch of the 2019 GEM Report: Germany

UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report, the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the German Commission for UNESCO will cohost the global launch of UNESCO’s 2019 GEM Report Migration, Displacement and Education: Building bridges, not walls.

The event in Berlin will combine introductory interventions by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and by UNESCO’s Director General Audrey Azoulay, a presentation by the GEM Report Director of the key findings and policy recommendations in the 2019 Report, and a keynote address by the UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Protection, Mr. Volker Türk. A high-level panel featuring ministers of education from Germany and three other countries as well as key global speakers will focus on education policy challenges. Drawing on the German experience, the discussion will look at what lessons these experiences hold for Europe and the world.
